A Section should be created for each competency in a given learning product. Each section is designed as a modular unit. 

Section Intro

The introduction is our chance to establish the overarching theme or topic of the competency

Include 1-2 paragraphs of introductory text about the section (to engage, grab interest). WGU IDs, please add guidance here for the vendor to support the learning approach for each section.

Include a 2—4 sentence description of the content organization in the section

Build Employability Skills and Competence

Include 2-3 sentences that connect skills to career/industry demand. Then list the skills for the Section (from Course Design Worksheet above). Use numbers, rather than bullets, if more than 2 skills.

In this section, you can demonstrate these skills by passing a final assessment that measures whether you have mastered this competency:

• Competency statement without “The learner” (so, starting with verb) and verb form should be without “s,” as if preceded by “You will.”

Prepare for the Assessment

To prepare for the competency objective/performance assessment, ask yourself these questions:

  • Evidence statement, revised into the form of a question, usually beginning with “Can I.”
  • Evidence statement, revised into the form of a question, usually beginning with “Can I.”
